Can you use this card to attack when your Leader isn't awakened, then discard 1 card from your hand for the skill cost of its [When Attacking] skill?
Yes, you can. In such cases, the skill will activate but the "if your Leader is awakened" condition won't be met, therefore this card won't switch to Active Mode.
